In defence of Cosmin Dumitriu

"Today is not about me, but about him: Cosmin Dumitriu. As of this year, Cosmin is my student at Transilvania University of Brașov, but we have been playing together for more than three years.

A year ago he won the pre-selection organised by the Pitești Philharmonic (a laudable initiative) to play a soloist concerto with the philharmonic — even though his former teacher told him not to apply 'so he wouldn't embarrass himself'. I would always want to be 'embarrassed' that way…

And so, after three or four years, he follows his own path — one on which no one else can walk for him, even if it were a 'dead end'. What matters is that he believes in what he does, in his calling, and that he follows that road on, despite all the 'critics' who might discourage him.

The audience is our measure. We play for them, and the moment we receive their energy and appreciation is the moment we know for certain that we did what we had to do."
